Music....
Such an immense expression of the soul. A reflection of life.
Most of the music in this blog have been pretty accurate depictions of my mood... from the Coralie Clement French song I loved while I was still pining for so and so to the recovery Sunday Morning. Last week was my dear Rachmaninov and the ever so beautiful Damien Rice...
BUT The Blower's Daughter is WAY WAY too sad for me... So I changed to this upbeat jazz-infused groovy number.... no track title... no lyrics. I just stumbled across it. But it really gets me going! It sounds so... sassy and fabulous! Like a chic metropolitan girl swinging down the high street, carefree and dandy.... I would like to think I'm that girl :)
No more sad tunes for me now cos I've been SO glad this week. Work was awesome.... but hell 'cos everyone's leaving for Bangkok next week for MTV Asia Awards. Ergo we had to produce 2 episodes in advance this week. But t'was real fun. Catch Denise in a chicken suit in the CNY special and super-UTT agianst Daredevil spoof! hohoho...
But hey.... It's INTERNS HAVOC TIME NEXT WEEK!! WOOHOO!!!
Next week I'm editing Ray!!! YAY! It's the blind blues-jazz-pianist--- and it's an Oscar nominee! Neat! Really looking forward to it...
It's also PARTY season with the gang next week.... with M&M, JC, mr tan and dance pals. After all, it's mr tan and my birthday.... gotta treat ourselves to some groovin' ya?
Gotta go shoe-shopping for CNY too! I need to get 2 pairs of mary janes cos they're so versatile ... something white for casual wear and a pair of pointed black mary janes for clubbing.... predict plenty of nights out with the gals when Ju returns. hehe...
AND OHMIGOD! My table's finally arrived! YIPPEE!!! Time to put my new room design concepts into action.....
AND there're SO many new movies and scripts coming in that I have to watch or read... Oscar heavyweights coming to our shores in FEB and I JUST SIMPLY have to catch A Very Long Engagement! M&M!!! Watch with me!!! mr tan too!!!
AND in between all these stuff CJ's gotta squeeze time out for Jitterbugs dance classes and rehearsals....
THAT'S RIGHT PEEPS! CJ's gonna be performing... and 3 times in the near future!
1) Dance on 18th and 19th Feb @ NTU for Dancetitude
2) Violin (in orchestra... no solo hehe) on 26 Feb @ Old Parliament House
3) Dance again on 5th 6th March @ Millenia Walk for the Jitterbugs 1st yr anniversary.
ahhaha..... SOOO many things! SOO little time!
But I'm happy!
Now I know why singles are called "swinging singles". 'Cos life is tonnes more exciting as a single.
START GROOVIN' BABY!

Of men, shoes and late night TV shows
Some sick MCPs go around saying that women are like shoes--- to be worn and disposed of when you tire of them.
But it's true. I've totally been replaced. An old sneaker thrown off into the rubbish heap.... So and so watched American Idol 4 with Jo, exactly like I did with him last year this time.... during his attachment.
BUT.... the vice versa is true too. Men are like shoes.
Bought my previous pair of dance shoes (a red Classic Adidas) with so and so in our better times, when we danced together and shopped for dancey stuff together.
But since things ended, it's high time I changed my dancing shoes too!
SO PRESENTING CJ'S NEW DANCING SHOES!!!
They're Adidas Originals dark blue and therefore a very versatile pair of shoes. I'm so so so glad!!! And of course I didn't choose red albeit it being more striking. Don't want them to be THAT similar to my old pair.
Mom was really really nice and of course there was a 30% discount. hehe.... can't wait to groove in those babies! *beams*
Ah! The joys of retail therapy!
It's Hari Raya Haji today and while my contemporaries went out with their friends or significant others, I went on a very EDUCATIONAL trip to Asian Civilisation Museum @ Empress Place.
T'was great!!! Considering Singapore being that teeny red dot, we've quite a considerable amount of exibits! And they are all interesting to look at! Only drawback is that lighting was dark and it was hard to read the explanations of the artifacts after a while.... So I gave up trying halfway, just briefly glossed through everything.... But I had a blast of a time nonetheless!
We walked to the ACM from Clarke Quay station. I tell you this ok? When it's off-day, the CBD and Boat Quay area looks SOOOO beautiful! And so windy and scenic without the black sharp-suited corporate cockroaches dotting the landscape!!!
It was the first time in days I heard my Dad laugh. I don't get to see him all that often. And it's so rare that my whole family goes out and joke about things together. Seeing them like this, I felt SO warm and happy and hopeful that I teared a bit. It was so happy-family-like.
I told my mom indignantly after the 1st few exhibits, "See? I wanted to be an archaeologist and you didn't let me! But now you see? Singapore DOES have stuff to dig!!!"
Mom: I can't imagine it when you find somebody's jawbone and you start jumping up and down with joy. Mom can't take that kinda blow!
Hee hee.... Oh well.... No Indiana Jones for me then!
Watched some late night TV after American Idol too. T'was mainly Pretty Woman and the Chinese classic Romance of the 3 Kingdoms.
Ah! Julia Roberts! She's so glam and beautiful then! Richard Gere too! Though I don't precisely like the idea that she was a pro to begin with, I LOVED it that it had such a fairytale ending... and her childhood dreams came true.
I SO totally want her hair later in the movie... luscious red curls! Actually I am a redhead already... just need the curls part! Don't forget our perm appointment when you return Ju!!!
Looks aside, I realised that I'm a much more jaded cynic now.
When I watched the movie long long ago, it was just splendid. Things worked out and dreams came true.
Now, while the romantic part of me still melted at the beautiful ending, the cynic questioned how long they could stay together with their vastly varied backgrounds and all.
A proposal isn't the end. It's the beginning of whole tiresome process called marriage, in which couples stress each other out through the planning etc...
And marriage itself isn't the end either.... people gotta KEEP it going. And it's really hard. Relationships too.... it's easy to get attached... but how do people STAY attached? You may have a fantastic man/woman but can you keep them for long without feeling insecure and ultimately let that insecurity ruin the relationship?
In the 1st season of Sex and the City, Miranda said that the fat, ugly, poor, stupid guys were just as selfish and arrogant as the rich smart good-looking ones. While this IS rather an unfair statement which many would disagree, just take a look at so and so. He's the perfect example of how the BETA kind of guys can STRAY just like anyone else.
Where's the faith? Where's the love?
Dang.... I just freaking want my Rachie.
BUT.... NEW SHOES NEW SHOES! YIPPEE!!!!

Day.... Erm... I can't remember. Can't be bothered to.
Groan....
It's been 10 days since my previous entry. I'm horribly horribly behind in updating my life and thoughts but HEY! It means I was busy and business is a welcome distraction. Especially when it's this fun! :)
Been swamped by work these days.... writing vijay scripts, links, voiceovers, cutting trailers and movie segments, doing studio shoot. Man! I can do this forever! I CAN I CAN!!
Recently, some of my dance pals have been telling me that their peers in their mid twenties are already married with kids. And I was like NO KIDDING!
Then people around me were like pop, pop, pop... getting married or engaged. And I rememebered My Best Friend's Wedding and saw the trailer to upcoming movie The Wedding Date.
It just totally make me sick to think that just a while ago I was contemplating the same thing.
But no, it was not meant to be.
I had nightmares of so and so marrying his new squeeze TWICE thru these times. And they were horrid. Woke up feeling uneasy the whole day.
So I have made a NEW RESOLUTION!
Yes, girls.... CJ has a new resolution. And that is to GET MARRIED BEFORE SO AND SO DOES!!!
Why? Because I refuse to be a miserable jealous ex sobbing away on his wedding day, thinking that it should have been me there with him, me in the beautiful wedding gown, me sharing the great times with him.... After 2 years of good times, that it should have been me to celebrate that holy matrimony.
Even if by then I have moved on totally, I know I'll still be bitten by pangs of regret and the memories will come flashing back and I'll try to regain that past again. It's ineveitable.
And to avoid that situation. The most convenient thing will be to get hitched before he does. Simple. It's a kill 2 birds with one stone thing cos then, he'll be the one feeling the pang of loss.
Humans are inherently selfish possessive creatures. Whatever was once ours, we want it to be ours forever. Even if it's not meant to be. And I do admit I'm guilty of that.
Okok.... enough of sad ramblings.
I've shifted from French jazzmatazz into Rachmaninov mode these days. Oh my dear Rachie, if only you were still alive! I used to tell myself that I would marry anyone who would serenade me with Rachmaninov's Concerto No. 2. All 3 movements of it.. which comes up to about 30 mins of continuous playing. hehe
Because anyone with enough patience to master it, with enough technical brilliance and enough soul to carry it through is a man worth my life.
His music is so haunting and beautiful and universal that it can move anybody to tears. Every year, the SSO will perform some work of his... either a piano concerto or his symphony. And every one of these performances will get close to full house. THAT's how powerful Rachie is. not just because he's rich or smart or powerful in the more tangible sense, but because he can move people with his creation. And that is SOO important I think....
That the greatest thing one can leave behind is not one's fortune. And definitely not tonnes and tonnes of photos.... Rather, it's stuff like that that leaves a legacy. Literary classics, great paintings, music, films.
I don't want to be known as this super-rich multi-billionaire who had a great (scandalous) life. Come on.... Do people actually LIKE Donald Trump as a person? They envy him for his wealth... but he has kinda become the butt of people's jokes... a caricature of a person MORE than actually BEING a person.
Like Tuesday With Morrie so aptly put, think of what you want on your tombstone and what you want to hear at your funeral AND LIVE IT OUT.
Recently watched Finding Neverland and it's really a sweet poignant film that warms one's heart. You realise that there're so many things sweet and beautiful in this world to live for... like children playing and my favourite scene--- sunlight shining on green green grass and trees.
I want to visit the Kew Gardens, the Kensington Gardens, the Tuileries... So many many beautiful places. I wanna spend A YEAR in the Louvre. And study music in some quaint German music institute like my piano teacher.
But at the mo, life is just about as good as it gets. I mean.. how many people want my job? ahhahaa.... It's not really a job at all.
And at the mo, my pursuit is in dance.. while my body can still take it.
Soo.. *contented sigh*.... I'm happy. *beams*
Before I sign off, gotta explain the song slightly. It's the title track from the OST of CLOSER starring Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Julia Roberts. Really soulful and haunting.
Enjoy!
THE BLOWER'S DAUGHTER--- DAMIEN RICE
And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her sky
I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes...
And so it is
Just like you said it should be
We'll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is
The colder water
The blower's daughter
The pupil in denial
I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes...
Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
Leave it all behind?
I can't take my mind off of you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off of you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind...
My mind...my mind...

Day 17-23- Movie Buff in the Making
Life........
is pretty predictable in boring ole Singapore. But I am eternally grateful for that. Predictability is MUCH more preferable to extreme losses in UNpredictability. You know what I'm talking about?
Anyway. Life.... passing so quickly, has spiralled into a column of busi-ness which I've named the WILD WILD WHIRL OF LIFE. A new year has began and work and dance take over my life again.
Started work at MTV Asia LDC this week.
To say the least, I have no idea why these people are paying me because I seem to be playing, not working. No wonder these people can stay on their jobs all their life and be contented with a comfortable pay. It's not a lot, but it's enough for them to get their Adidas sweaters, cool clothes and Bobbi Brown makeup.
Ah sheesh... ok. They get a lot then. But they save a lot from watching free movies, which l'il moi, being an intern there, now enjoys. WOOHOO!!!
Been watching so many movie trailers on a huge TV at close range I'm getting cross-eyed. Then again I can remember almost every funny line in upcoming movies, which can't be a bad thing.
And I get to do the reviews for Top 5 movies and OST. NICE!
Met Denise and Utt(obviously). Was TOTALLY star-struck by Denise. She has SUCH a sparkling personality and SUCH screen presence it's no wonder she's a VJ. Utt is a dorky little shortie.... who can look cute and endearing in a little boy way.
All in all, despite the slow mornings and lazy afternoons (action only begins after 6pm you see), I ABSOLUTELY ADORE WHAT I'M DOING....
I still believe there's some strong cosmic power out there helping me. Whenever I want something badly enough, I'll get it. With the exception of so and so... But Ju said something that rang loud and true. People come and go in our lives for a reason. Therefore so and so had a reason. It was all planned.
And the reason he came into my life is to lead me to a bigger cause--- my current passion, dance.
If he hadn't appeared in my life, I would not have found dance or made it such a huge part of my life right now. So yep... the theory goes like this.... So and so appeared for a function and since he'd fulfilled it and I've moved on to bigger things like the Jitterbugs scholarship, he had to go.
His going will in turn will lead to bigger things, like the close friends I now have. Yes... that's a beautiful theory. Thanks so much JU!
This has been a good week for me. I only cried ONCE the whole of the week. And that was when so and so called an cried too... so I cried at the 'might-have-beens', which are better remaining might have beens..... they're more poignant that way.
Other good points this week aside from work is Max's bdae @ L's house. T'was pretty fun and I met L's sis who was a journalist I met while working on World Debating Championships with so and so... The world IS so small! And what serendipity!
Got Fockerised on Friday and screamed my heart out to He Wasn't Man Enough For Me and Shut Up on Sat..... I shall say this again. KTV is good.....
Let's repeat it. KTV is SOOOO GOOOD!!!
Dance-wise, my flexibility has surprisingly improved after 2 weeks of not stretching at all!!! haha.... YAY!!!
And I can remember and internalise steps just as quickly! YAY!!! And hip hop was just SO cool today! Love the music, love the attitude, love the steps, love the dancing and the adrenaline rush!
All in all, this has been a fabulous first week at work....
So to all my friends out there, thank you!!
A Prayer for the Stressed
O Grant me
the serenity to accept things I cannot change
the courage to change the things I cannot accept
and the wisdom to hide the bodies of people I had to kill today,
because they pissed me off.
And also, help me to be careful of the toes I step on today
as they may be connected to the ass that I may have to kiss tomorrow.
Help me to always give 100% at work... 12% on Monday, 23% on Tuesday, 40% on Wednesday, 20% on Thursday and 5% on Friday.
And help me remember.... when I'm having a really bad day, and it seems that people are trying to piss me off, that it takes 42 muscles to frown but only 4 to extend my middle finger and tell them to bite me.
"Possibilities"
Don't say "I can never do it."
Always ask "How can I do it?"
There is immense power and genius in asking for the possibilities.

Day 16- The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Ah.... Short entry because I'm starting Professional Internship (PI) tomorrow and I gotta sleep early.
THE GOOD:
I got a new phone AGAIN. hehe... this time equipped with a stereo mp3 player, fabulous 3D games, great photo/video cam and nice interface with smileys to use when I sms.
I'm MORE than beaming happy....
I'm GLOWING AND BEAMING!
THE BAD:
Mich and I tried to catch the band gig @ Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. The rain had already stopped long before that but still the gig was non-existential. We sighed and sighed and walked all the way back to Citylink Mall. Both of us fell sick. My nose ran like tap and I could feel a fever rising. NO GOOD NO GOOD...
THE UGLY:
Seen something that'll give me sore eyes for the next few days or so. There was a fat lady. Yes... "Botero" like FAT LADY with a tall thin ANG MOH at her arms.
Ya. Just that picture in your mind is ludicrous enough already right? Here's more...
She had Jet black straight hair with China-doll bangs. And she's NOT young.... prolly in her 40s or 50s. But her black dress was DARN SHORT. So FRIGGING SHORT I COULD SEE HER BUTT CRACK! (and that was when I was looking down from the elevator... imagine looking at her level or worse... looking up!)
And she had an IMMENSE AMOUNT of CELLULITE and the 2 blobs of blubber that was her butt bumped and rolled with each other as she swayed from side to side while walking.
Asked Mich what the HELL the "Botero" lady wore underneath. Cos I seriously don't see any underthings....
Answer: Either G-string or birthday suit.
EEWWWWWWWW.......
OUCH... Sore eyes...

Day 15- HAPPIE NOOO EARRRR!!!
Alright! 2 weeks pining for so and so IS OVER!
It's a NEW YEAR with NEW BEGINNINGS and time to put my resolutions into action.
This year's NYE celebration has got to be the MOST smashing one I've ever been to, thanks to my dear friends and readers of this blog, Ju, Mich, Max and Faz. Life has never been the same since being with you all!
Had a great sandwich dinner @ O'Briens followed by a drinking session in Harry's @ Esplanade. It's a one man show AGAIN but this really cool jazz and blues singer played so much better than the last and I'm just amazed at the deftness of his fingers and his out-of-this-world falsettos. REAL NEAT!
And the best thing? He played the craziest and bestest version of Jingle Bell I've ever heard in my life!!!
CHIJMES it was next. The salsa band and party crowd there SERIOUSLY RAWKS! We grooved to pseudo-salsa music and mambo stuff post and pre countdown but the countdown was really the highlight. It was pretty emotional for me because 2004 was a year of upheavals in my life.
For one... I found broadcast as my passion and therefore career path. 2... I lost my love but 3... I found great friends in dance and in life. 4.. I'm pursuing a new passion, dance and 5... I moved back home which is quite a change for me.
Thinking back just made me want to cry and I know that's what made M cry too. The rest were teary as well when 12 midnight struck. But we hugged each other, kept screaming Happy New Year and kept jumping and dancing and the unhappiness passed within a few minutes.
YES! Partying DOES help chase the blues away! And the live music was just AWESOME! So we danced the night away while ogling at salsa pros doing their thang.....
then took a nice scenic walk back to Esplanade with plenty of chatter and laughter along the way. Electrico was waiting for us.... along with J from the 93 batch of VJ guys.
Electrico was REALLY good. Feet got a-tapping and head got a-nodding. WAYYY COOOL!
J wasn't so cool though... haha.. but I think we've laughed enough at his expense. So ZIP.... I shall not disclose further.
Back to CHIJMES we went and the music went from salsa to HIP HOP!!! Best part was the mostly expat crowd loved it too! They even loved the DJ though his mixing was really amateurish. I could do better... :)
Post-dancing we all sat down to dessert and chatted till dawn with discussions ranging from err... guys... to more guys. Seriously girls! That's not a good sign. >_<
Life has dealt me a serious blow this past year but it has also taught me a lesson. But more than that, I'm eternally grateful that I've found my passion and life path and discovered such a great bunch of close friends. Life is fair.
Cheers to a New Year!
