CJ has mixed feelings these days...
It may be due to a variety of reasons like PMS, stock market plunging, the lack of cool music in her room, or Mr G's long absence from SG due to a certain blasted exam called CFA.
It may also be that life is throwing a lot at her right now.
Over the past week or so, she's witnessed 2 of her friends committing to walk down the aisle in July and one of them is dear Miss J, a sec school classmate, who went on to become an I-banker working in HK. (CJ's beginning to think I-bankers working in HK are a cliche these days. It seems like half the population I meet are I-bankers working in HK. Mr G included.)
I dunno HOW she does it but it's pretty darn AMAZING how fast she is at planning her wedding. And she even got a SPANKING NEW apartment in East Coast to nest with her love.
AND, she just graduated a year ago.... just as yours sincerely did! MAN!! Some people are efficient! Makes me think that I'm such a laggard and that's not a good feeling.
Then again, CJ does think that 28-30's a good age for such affairs, so well, HECK THE AISLE!!! It's playtime in Sunny SG in the meanwhile. Plenty of stuff to do and folks to meet.
The other chick's Mr G's close pal who's ROM-ing in July and moving down under with her love.
OH! And even S is going to London to attend her ex-flatmate's wedding!! And that's a whirlwind 6 months romance through 3 different countries. *sob* So romantic!!
CJ has some thoughts on all these hulabaloo. I went to 7 weddings in the 2nd half of last year alone, but none as close to home as Miss J's. Mainly cos the rest were all colleagues and friend's friend. Miss J's is the first invitation I received from a personal friend of my age.
Is this the dawn of a new phase or the end of a glorious era?
You see, life, according to yours sincerely, is divided into phases of what kinda events you attend.
In your toddler days, you get to attend birthday parties with nice lil goodie bags full of sweets and play 'Pin the Tail On The Donkey'.
This will evolve into real partying in clubs (birthday or not!) in your adolescence, and all the way through to adulthood.
Then all of a sudden, you start attending friends' weddings and this is a new phase of life, with more responsibilities and commitment thrown into the picture.
Then comes the baby showers and alarm bells should be ringing by this time before your ovaries start getting lazy and then closing business.
Then before you know it, it's time to go for friends' kids' weddings.
And finally, when you start to attend your own friends' funerals, you'll know your time's almost up.
So you see? I'm starting to attend my own friend's weddings!!! It's the 3rd phase!!! And the worst thing is I'm no longer all that euphoric about partying hard anymore. It's just tiring and irritating having to jostle with sweaty, hormone-raging teens in crowded, smoke-filled clubs reeking of alcohol. I've lost patience for good music to be played nowadays, when almost every hiphop joint plays the same kinda s**t, and you have to wait 2-3 songs before they play some decent music.
These days, live bands playing jazz and latin music is my thang. CJ's an old hag at 24. SO? Sue me! We'll all turn to old hags one day anyway, just a matter of time.
On a more sombre note, while I ADORE my work, my teammates have falling sick. The general health of SG's population ain't good. Aedes' on the rise. More void-decks are being converted to funeral parlours.
Somebody at my workplace passed away suddenly and his client did as well. It is a sad sad thing because the former was really well-loved by everyone, was a pious, family kinda guy, and his kid's still young.
JZ'z aunt passed on too. It's an awful awful feeling to have people around you pass away, but such is life.
Here's wishing that all these good people find their peace in Heaven.
For now, we, the remainders on Earth shall live through the full spectrum of life in La Turbulent Twenties!!
